APC Vice Presidential candidate Kashim Shettima urges Nigerians to look beyond tribal boundaries in 2023 elections : TV360 Nigeria
The All Progressives Congress (APC) will today officially unveil its running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, to the public.
Speaking at his official unveiling in Abuja, All Progressives Congress vice-presidential candidate Kashim Shettima called on Nigerians to look beyond ethnicity and tribe when deciding who would be their leader in 2023.
In his remarks, the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, described the APC presidential candidate as a detribalized Nigerian who brought everyone together regardless of their ethnic and political differences.
He congratulated Tinubu on his choice of Shettima, thus following the path of the presumed winner of the 1993 presidential election, Moshood Abiola who chose Babagana Kingibe as his running mate.
Praising the virtues of the former Governor of Lagos State, the APC President said Tinubu can be trusted to lead an inclusive government if elected President in the 2023 general election.
“The 1993 presidential ticket and the current one crossed one of our fourth lines in dealing with our adversities. Nigerians overwhelmingly voted for this ticket because they trusted Abiola – a man who opened his arms to all tribes and religions in this country,” Adamu said.
“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man who has also thrown his arm around all the tribes of Nigeria. He offered his shoulders for those who suffer to lean on. He used his wealth to help the needy.
“He can be trusted to lead an inclusive government where character, skill and vision matter to his administration.”
Also speaking, Tinubu said he was grateful for the endorsement of APC leaders as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.
According to him, every election offers an opportunity to bring hope to millions of Nigerians, promising that if elected there will be a turnaround for the general good of the masses.
Tinubu said he consulted widely before deciding to pick Shettima as his running mate for the 2023 general election.
“A lot has been said, written about my decision to select Shettima to accompany me on this journey. As a committed and progressive leader, I have read and listened to everything that has been written and said. It has been an emotional situation for me,” Tinubu said.
“On many competent Nigerians and many tips, I know this must be my decision. And the mark of leadership is to make a decision at the right time when it has to be made.
“I have consulted and I am proud to see you all here acknowledging the quality of our Vice President Kashim Shettima.”
Tinubu had, on July 10, announced that the legislator representing the central senatorial district of Borno was his running mate, following the resignation of Ibrahim Masari, who served as a “replacement”.
Shettima’s announcement caused a lot of outcry in different circles, just as she received support from others.
While Tinubu is a Muslim from Lagos, the southwestern region of the country, Shettima is also a Muslim from northeast Borno.
